On the 22nd of October 3rd to 6th classes were given the unique opportunity to go and view a live excavation at St. Mary’s Collegiate church in Youghal.Upon arrival they were greeted by two staff members who gave them a detailed history of the church. They then were lucky enough to meet two archaeologists who were undertaking a live dig in the centre of the church. They showed the children old artifacts they had uncovered including – old coins and bones. The archaeologists showed them the tools they used to undertake an excavation also.
Finally, they were shown the entrance to old vaults and the old heating system the church once had. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day had by all.
