Physical Education plays an important role at Kyle National School, Here at Kyle N.S. the children are exposed to a varied P.E curriculum that not only develops the childrens’ balance, speed, co-ordination and skills but also the developement of teamwork, social skill and enjoyment of sport.
The children have access to a tarmac area and an open green area which allows them to play a variety of different sports throughout the year. The school has invested in various sports equipment to support the provision of sports, such as – hockey, soccer, football, hurling/camogie, tennis, badminton, basketball, athletics, skipping, rugby and orienteering to name but a few. Also all children from 1st – 6th take part in a block of swimming every year, therefore fulfilling the demands of the Aquatics strand of the Curriculum.
Physical Education at Kyle N.S. is inclusive in nature and lessons are adapted to suit all childrens’ needs and abilities.
Kyle N.S. is proud of its close relationship with local sporting bodies including – Killeagh GAA, Youghal Basketball Club, Youghal Rugby Club and Aura Swimming Pool in Youghal.
In recent years Kyle N.S. has enjoyed the fruits of it hard work and emphasis on sport by taking part in inter school competitions such as Sciath na Scol, Mini Sevens, Cork City Sports, Rugby Competitions and Basketball Blitzs. The school has won multiple medals, trophies and awards as a result.
Kyle N.S. received acknowledgements for it success in delivering the P.E Curriculum when it received its first Active Schools Flag Award in 2013. This award was a memorable moment for Kyle N.S. and was the result of a motivated and hardworking staff, excellent supportive parents and willing children.
